55 ESOL students from 3rd-5th grade recently visited the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. We got to see the Picasso to Warhol exhibit. This exhibit featured work on loan from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It was exciting to see Andy Warhol's soup cans and Picasso's Girl Before a Mirror among many others. The students represented our school so well!!!! We can't wait to go back!
5th Grade has been working their way through the seven elements of art! While studying FORM we created abstract foam sculptures based on the work of Alexander Calder. Check out our designs for a sculpture designed for a city center or public space.
4th grade has been studying the work of Henri Matisse from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Like Matisse, the 4th graders are Fauves or "Wild Beasts"!!! We created these interior spaces using wild bold colors and patterns just as Matisse would have done. Enjoy!
Come see your child's art work on display on the cafeteria from 5-8pm on Friday Oct. 21st. You can purchase a framed masterpiece! Help support Sedalia Park Arts and get a wonderful, one-of-a-kind creation that your student has worked so hard to create. These make great gifts!
Each framed piece can be purchased the night of the festival for $25.00 (additional sibling framed work $20.00). Look for the flyer that will be sent home for more information. We look forward to seeing you Friday evening!

The school wide art show will be held during the fall festival this year! Framed pieces will be available for purchase (first frame is $25, additional prints or sibling pieces will be $20). All money earned at this event goes directly to fund your child's art program. Please consider showing your support and you will get to enjoy your student's one of a kind masterpiece.
Look for pictures soon of what to expect to see from each grade level at the exhibit. The students have worked really hard on their art so stop by the cafeteria the night of the festival and let them show you what they have created
We are off to an exciting year! If you have been in the cafeteria, you saw our beautiful murals that were created on art day last year. A HUGE thanks to all of the kids who collected, counted, sorted, and placed over 50,000 bottle tops. And to the cafeteria who washed each and every top. And we could not have hung the murals without the generous support of area churches along with Ken Craft and Johnny Merchant who loaned us their ladders (thanks to Mr. Wehr) and all of the hard working men who worked so hard to climb those ladders and hang our art! Look for another school wide project to come our way later this school year.
The students are getting back into the routine of the art room very quickly. We are all starting
on a variety of projects this week. Check back soon to see some pictures of our current projects.

Our Target students went to the High Museum this week. We had a great time learning about the museum's permanent collection. We received a grant to go on this field trip through Art Access. The High is a great place to take your kids to learn not only about art but also about history, science, literature and more. Check out their web site for more information about the great programs they have for families.

Kindergarten has been learning all year that if we know our shapes we can draw just about anything. For the next few weeks in art we will be drawing, painting and sculpting animals. This week we have been using ovals, cricles, triangles and rectangles to draw an elephant. We used water color paints to finish them off. We learned that the more water we use the lighter our color will be. I think they turned out great!
Thanks to everyone who came out to support our school wide art show. I think everyone enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful art work created by Sedalia Park Students and Staff! Funds rasied from this event will help provide art supplies and materials for every grade level.
