Math
Students are working on multiplication, division, and fractions. Weekly fact tests are now on division and multiplication facts. If your child has not mastered the facts, it is mandatory that they practice using flash cards or reputable web-sites such as First in Math every night. As we begin more complex mathematical concepts students who don’t know their facts will struggle. There is math homework each night Monday through Thursday. Homework should be copied daily in agendas. Check your child’s agenda for assessment dates.
Language Arts
We are starting to focus on text features in nonfiction text. Your child will be learning how to use features such as the table of contents, index, glossary, headings, bolded text, etc. Please help your child understand how to use these features as you read nonfiction text together. Please make sure that your child is reading nightly and completing his/her reading log.
Science and Social Studies
We are beginning our solar system unit in science. We will be studying the moon and its phases, stars, the planets, and the movements of each. Observe the moon with your child if you get a chance.
In Social Studies we will begin the American Revolution unit with the study of the French and Indian War after we complete our science unit.
