Our focus this 9 weeks is on the features and structures of informational text. Students will complete a research paper this 9 weeks to demonstrate their competency with text structures. Lessons in the media center, Weekly Readers, and Guided Reading groups also support and reinforce their knowledge of text features and structures.
Students should be somewhere between 30-40% of their Accelerated Reader goal at this point. All students are to read a minimum of 20 minutes at home and complete a reading log or weekly reading assignment (per teacher direction).
Most classes have completed the fraction unit, and will be moving into decimals. Weekly fact tests are now on division facts. If your child has not mastered the facts, it is mandatory that they practice using flash cards or reputable web-sites such as First in Math every night. As we begin more complex mathematical concepts students who don’t know their facts will struggle. There is math homework each night Monday through Thursday. Homework should be copied daily in agendas. Check your child’s agenda for assessment dates.
We have completed the solar system unit. We are now beginning our study of the causes of the American Revolution. Remember, each individual classroom may be at a slightly different place, but the assessments are the same and study guides will be sent home. There are no retests in any subject except math, so please review the material with your student if they have been absent or have received stamps for incomplete work.
