March marks the end of the 3rd 9 weeks and our focus in reading and writing shifts from informational text to how to think critically about the books we are reading and how to write to persuade. Each classroom will be doing a study of our favorite authors. As we move closer to the CRCT it is important to begin reviewing the concepts we have been working on this year. My Skills Tutor is an excellent resource for CRCT practice.
Math
At the beginning of March we will be learning about customary and metric weight comparisons. As we move into the 4th 9 weeks, we will be giving a comprehensive review test to analyze areas of weakness so we can begin preparing for the CRCT.
Social Studies/Science
Learning about the problems with the Articles of Confederation and a study of the New Government of the United States of America is an important step in understanding our government. Ask your children what they are learning about the branches of government and the balance of power that we call “checks and balances.”
In Science we will begin our very important unit on Ecology. This is a study of the source of energy, the food chain, food web, and the problems that happen when the chain is broken.
