Language Arts
As we close the 1st 9 weeks of school, students are working on their narrative writing. In the 2nd 9 weeks we will begin our unit on Traditional Literature. Students will be learning about the elements of traditional literature and preparing for their response to literature presentation in December. Students will continue to work on their writing, spelling, and grammar.
Math
We are introducing the students to multi-digit multiplication with multiplication arrays. We will work on the array for a few days before introducing the algorithm.
We will begin division fact fluency. Students will be expected to complete 100 division facts in five minutes. Please help your student prepare for this by using flashcards at home.
Social Studies/Science
In Science, the study of weather will be our focus for the month of October. Take the opportunity to watch weather forecasts with your child. Have them predict what they think the weather will be tomorrow.
Social Studies will follow weather with the study of the explorers of America. The students will learn what the explorers were looking for, what they found, and what the impact was on the native populations.
