Wow! Where has the time gone?  We have just one week of school until the Thanksgiving break!  We have been busy learning about Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving history and traditions, and so much more!  Our walking trip to Sewell Park to learn about living and non-living things was met with soggy conditions, but fortunately the instructors from the Cobb County Extension Service brought nature indoors to us at school!  We loved learning all about rocks and worms! FALL FUN

 Fall means pumpkins and lots of learning opportunities!  We weighed and measured the height and circumfrence of our pumpkins.  We conducted experiments to find out if our mini-pumpkins would sink or float...some of us were quite surprised!  We voted on a how to design our pumpkin's face, graphed the results, and then all took turns using our senses to explore the inside of the pumpkin!  Enjoy these pictures of our pumpkin-inspired activities!          
      
  

An Apple A Day

  Thank you for all of the apples you sent in!  They kept us busy with learning activities for many days!   We weighed apples, graphed red, yellow and green apples, learned about apple trees, and for the grand finale, made homemade applesauce.  It was yummy!  We have quite a class of jr. chefs!

  

   

   



 
 

 

Fun at the Fair!

   Wow!  What a beautiful day for the fair!  We had a great time visiting with the animals, viewing the crafts and enjoying an ice cream treat!  Thanks to all the moms and dads who joined us!

We had so much fun welcoming parents to our classroom today!  Thank you for the wonderful turnout, and for the delicious treats! Fire Safety with Firefighter Drew

  Today we were fortunate to have a visit from Firefighter Drew from the Cobb County Fire Department.  He taught us all about fire safety.  We learned about the difference between an emergency and a non-emergency.  We talked about the importance of having a family meeting place in case of emergency, and we learned how to stop, drop and roll. Please discuss these important ideas at home with your child.  THANK YOU Firefighter Drew for helping us learn about fire safety.

Do you purchase Sunny D juices for your kids?  If so, please save the labels and send them to school.  If we can collect 20 labels, Sunny D will send us 20 age appropriate books for our classroom! LOOKING FOR A GOOD BOOK?

As you help your child select books, consider the wonderful, rhythmic stories written by Bill Martin, Jr.  This month we are enjoying his books through a classroom author study.  Books such as Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?  and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom delight youngsters with lively, patterned rhyme, and help kids learn to read.  Ask your child about his or her favorite, and then head to the library to check out a few of Martin's books. You're in for a treat!

Homework Calendar

Today your child is bringing home our September homework calendar.  Some evenings there is some written work. Other evenings there are suggestions for games and activities that you can do with your child to help support his or her social and academic growth.  All of the activities are based on our GA Performance Standards for kindergarten, and we hope they give you some good ideas for ways to help your child succeed in school.
