Reading Recovery

Links

Teachers:  Sharon Gordon, Gigi Richardson, and Karen Shoenig

We are very happy that your child is a part of our Reading Recovery program!  We are going to have a wonderful time for the next several weeks learning to become better readers and writers.  We hope that you are as excited as we are about seeing your child become a successful reader and writer.  Please use the links below to email us if you have any questions or comments.

Lesson Information

The Reading Recovery teacher will meet with your child daily for an uninterrupted 30 minute lesson.  The lessons are individualized specifically for your child and are designed to maximize their growth as a first grade reader!

Here you will find some important information about the Reading Recovery Lesson.  Please check back often as more information will be added!

The Cut Up Sentence

Each night a copy of the story your child wrote with their Reading Recovery teacher earlier that day will come home.  It will be in the form of a cut up sentence.  You and your child need to take the words out and place them in order (the completed sentence is written on the outside of the envelope).   You may choose to glue or tape the sentence together or just practice putting it together, mixing it up again and putting it back together.

Nightly Reading

Each night your child will bring home a bag with book they can read.  Please be sure to read these books at night with your child.  They are so proud of all they have accomplished...let them show you what they can do!

Also, please make sure you are sending the bag back each day as your child will change out their books in order to keep bringing home new and exciting stories to read to you!

These bags were purchased for the Reading Recovery students at Sedalia Park and we would greatly appreciate it if you would take very good care of them while they are at home!
