Mission

The mission of Sedalia Park's School Counseling Program is to advocate learning for all students while providing a safe and supportive environment which enhances learning through social, personal, and academic growth.

School Counselors will:

**Plan and manage the comprehensive school counseling program in collaboration with thier site administrator

**Abide by the professional school counseling ethics

**Participate in professional development activities essential to maintaining a quality school counseling program

**Will work in collaboration with parents, teachers and administrators

 

Middle School Transition

We are in the process of scheduling visits to the middle school.  Information will be coming home about orientation.  Please make sure your child's immunization is complete and an updated record is in permanent folder.

February Guidance lessons

 

 

This month our unit is on diversity.  Lessons will cover topics such as respect, tolerance, patience, points of view, and kindness.

October Guidance Lesson

 

In 3rd, 4th and 5th students will be finishing up unit on goal-setting.  Students learned the steps to goal setting, what a goal is, and how to create a plan for achieving a goal.  Starting the week of October 10th students will be learning about conflict resolution.  Topics that will be covered: peer presure, being assertive, how to communicate effectively, bullying.

 

K-2nd will be ending lessons on perspective.  Students learned what perspective mean through story and inactive activities.  Next lesson is on stereotype.  Students will learn how not to judge or make assumptions without facts.  Students will learn how to use decision making model.

 

Wish Upon A Star

  

             This is a program that helps families for the holidays.  If you need some extra help this holiday season, please contact your child's teacher.  Applications are due back by October 14th.

Consequences of Crime field trip

Date: March 24, 20011

Only fifth graders can participate in this field trip.  They will receive information about shoplifting, juvenile delinquency, drugs and alcohol, with a focus on choices and consequences.

 

Middle School Visitation To East Cobb

Date: March 15, 2011

This is and opportunity for the fifth graders to tour the middle school and meet the sixth grade teachers.  They will hear a presentation on what a particular day looks like in middle school, rules and expectation.

Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions.

Students will learn the importance of respect for self, others, and envirnoment.  They will be able to identify other words related to respect.

Career Paths

Students will learn how the skills they are learning in school will prepare them for future careers.  They will learn what job, interests, and skills needed for the different career paths.

Week 1

Connecting Subjects and Skills to Careers

Students will understand how the skills they are learning now will help them in any future career. Students will be able to match academic skills to corresponding career paths.

Week 2

Fast Delivery

Students will identify workers in the schooland in families related to the six career paths.  Students will be able to name the career paths and know types of jobs and skills needed for each career path.

Week 1

Activities/Interests to Careers

Students will understand the relationship between training and the world of work.    Students will identify the career path that will link them to careers that is linked to their interests and skills.

Week 2

Name That Job

Students will compare and contrast the roles and responsibilities of careers.

Wish Upon A Star Update

I want to thank everyone who participated in the Wish Upon A Star program.  Your support and generosity made a difference to the families here at the school.  Because of your support, we were able to help about 60 families and collect over 265 gifts.  Again, thank you all for another successful year. 

January Guidance Lesson

 K, 1st and 2nd graders will learn about differences.  They will talk about positive aspects of being different, how people are different around the world, and respecting self and others.

3rd, 4th and 5th graders will learn about stress.  Students will be able to identify triggers, how stress affect our body, ways to handle stress and learn key terms related to stress.

September Guidance Lessons

This month in guidance K-5 grades are focusing on responsibility.  Students are learning what it means to be responsible, identifying responsible behaviors and how being responsible will make them a better student.  Each 5th grader created a study plan.  The study plan is to help them to organize their time so they would have enough time each day for studying and doing homework.  Ask your child to show you their study schedule.  Talk with your child about their schedule and help them to make adjustments if needed.
